Profiles
The characters’ jagged silhouettes against a blood red sky represent Storm Garden’s visceral and sometimes violent world. With certain details omitted, their features are left to the reader’s imagination. While some outlines are crisp, others appear weathered or crumbling. Witzger is painted with amine brushstrokes, signifying the character’s conceptual origin.
Map
Down the page you’ll find a map of Skygard. Beyond the Reef is mostly uncharted sky. Instead of designing a loose collection of islands, I wanted a clear perimeter between civilization and the unknown. This is also true of the Shroud, the toxic cloud which separates Skygard from the shattered world below. The characters are literally surrounded by mystery.
Landscapes
The environment of Storm Garden. Deep greens, blues, reds, and bronze distinguish the organic from the mechanical. While the profiles are representational, the landscapes are the literal world of Skygard.
